John Terry is considered fit enough to be included in Chelsea's squad for the tie against Huddersfield Town, even though the England captain was not expected to return for another fortnight after fracturing three bones in his foot against Arsenal in December.
Terry has defied the schedule laid down by the club's medical staff and has a real chance of playing some part against Huddersfield.
"He has surprised us all," said the Chelsea manager, Avram Grant. "Maybe he is a bionic man. He recovers very quickly and well.
Maybe he will be on the bench or even start, but we haven't decided about that yet. But each injury depends on the person and he is very strong, not just mentally, but also physically.
"He is a very important player for us. I haven't seen a captain like him. I have been all over the world and he is a big captain and influence on the team.
For me a captain leads by example and not just talking. He sets a good example and we miss him a lot on the pitch."
